In a plot twist fit for the modern era, the fiery Republican congressman from Florida’s Panhandle took the initiative on the House floor to demand Speaker Kevin O. McCarthy (R.-Calif.) be removed from office, not long after McCarthy declared he had started the process of impeaching President Biden.
He said, “Joe Biden should be impeached for turning the vice presidency into a bank account for almost his whole family. Everyone sees it. Everyone knows it.”
“Speaker McCarthy approved an impeachment investigation just moments ago,” stated Representative Matthew L. Gaetz II of the House Freedom Caucus.
Gaetz thought that McCarthy’s attempt to impeach the president came too little, too late.
“This is a small step after conservatives in the House pushed for weeks for us to do more. We need to move faster.”
Gaetz said that the speaker didn’t hold the president accountable and didn’t keep his word to Republicans in the House.
“In January, a historic race for House Speaker took place right here on this floor,” he said.
The presenter of the Firebrand show said, “I’m here to give you a warning: Mr. Speaker, you’re not living up to the deal that gave you this job.”
“The next step for the House of Representatives is to either get you to agree to everything right away or get rid of you through a motion to vacate the chair,” he said.
Gaetz said that the speaker didn’t bring up things that were very important to Republicans in the House.
The lawmaker stated that McCarthy had pledged to utilize both the purse and the subpoena authority in January.
He stated, “But eight months later, we still have not sent Hunter Biden the first subpoena.”
“That is how you can tell that the speaker’s rushed and shaky performance wasn’t real,” he said.
“The agreement called for and required that we deliberate on term limits as well as balanced budgets, but we haven’t done either,” he said. “The tapes from January 6 have not been made public in full, as you promised.”
The lawmaker said that the president and his business deals with his family have not been held accountable enough.
On this very floor in January, the whole world witnessed a historic contest for House Speaker.
I rise today to serve notice. Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role. The path forward for the House of Representatives is to… pic.twitter.com/1IFsrmT8KK

Gaetz says that McCarthy also didn’t do what he said he would do to cut federal spending, and he also helped raise spending by using shady accounting tricks. “In the end, you ended up being Biden’s valet, paying off his debt and advancing his spending plans.”
